The Summit Inn Tour
One of the few “great porch” hotels left in the country the view from this historic land mark offers a panorama of 5 counties. Designed in the Arts and Crafts era, the lobby of the Inn offers cozy seating in the original Stickley designed Mission style furniture. In this popular gathering place, guests enjoy the fireplace atmosphere around the massive stone hearth. Other original furnishings are seen throughout, including the Steinway piano, the Black Forest coat rack and Bavarian cuckoo clock. Historic documents and photos decorate the lobby and hallways of The Summit Inn Resort.

Within the lobby you will find our registration desk. Here you “sign in” on the very spot where famous notable figures such as Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, J. P. Morgan and Presidents Harding and Truman once did. Although computerized registration has replaced the handwritten register, the desk and room key slots remain as they saw it.
While a few of our rooms are located directly off the lobby, the remainder of our 94 rooms are located on the 1st and 2nd floors. Rising from the lobby, the “Grand Staircase”, where it is rumored that President Harding once “took a tumble”, branches off to our east and west wings where a select number of rooms offer a splendid view of the valley some 2,300 feet below.

If there is one area that guests demand perfection, it is in the quality of a hotel’s “board-of-fare”. At the Summit we understand this importance and have made available to our guests one of the finest, if not the best, menu in all of the Laurel Highlands. And that’s not all!, our restaurant has the distinction of being listed in the National Trust Historic Restaurant Guide. This honored publication only lists restaurants meeting criteria to be determined as historical properties! With this in mind, we believe our restaurant’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner menu is sure to meet and possibly surpass your dining expectations. Our seasoned servers know what it takes to make your meal both relaxing and enjoyable. Whether you’re dining with us in the “The Summit Room” during the spring or fall or in July or August in our “Edison Room”, we are sure that your dining experience will be one that you will always remember.
As the hours pass in the day and the bright summer sun makes its way across the sky, how better to complete the day than with a visit out to our lovely front porch. With its wooden deck chairs, one can be made to feel as if he/she is strolling the promenade deck of a grand luxury liner of the past. Some 2,300 feet below, the valley stretches out for as far as the eye can see and if you’re lucky enough to be out at sunset you’re sure to marvel at the exquisite multicolored display that nature paints across the heavens.
